Windows

Double-hung and storm windows

Wood or vinyl sash, six-over-six or one-over-one, with an aluminum storm over each. We wash both sashes, the storm pane and the track.

Most Boston houses built before 1950 have double-hung windows, and many have a storm window outside each one. That can mean four layers of glass between you and the street. We wash the ones that tilt in or lift out, and we leave painted-shut sashes closed.

Included

  • Both sides of every pane we can reach

  • Storm panes, inside and out where they swing or lift out

  • Frames wiped and sills dried

  • Tracks vacuumed and wiped

  • Screens washed and rehung in the same window

How it is priced

How this one is priced

By the pane. A small divided-light pane in a six-over-six window is priced lower than a standard sash pane, because there are more of them. Storm panes count as panes.

  • Standard sash pane

Outside only, or inside and out.

  • Small divided-light pane

Priced lower than a standard pane, outside only or inside and out. A six-over-six window has twelve.

  • Screen

Washed and rehung in its window.

The visit

How a visit goes

  1. 01

Step 1: You confirm a day

We text the evening before with a two-hour arrival window and who is coming.

  2. 02

Step 2: We count at the door

The count goes against your quote. If it differs, we tell you before we start.

  3. 03

Step 3: Inside first, then outside

Cloths down at every window. Screens come out and go back into the window they came from.

  4. 04

Step 4: We walk the house with you

We check each window with you, then text the receipt.

Before and beyond

What to do before we arrive, and what we leave alone

  • Before we arrive

    • Clear the sills of plants and lamps

    • Open or tie back curtains and blinds

    • Tell us about pets and any alarm

    • Leave a path to each window

  • What we do not do

    • Open painted-shut sashes

    • Scrape or sand paint

    • Wash outside glass above the second floor from a ladder

    • Work in the rain or on ice

Questions about this

Homes built before 1978: will you open painted-shut windows?

No. We clean the glass we can reach and leave painted-shut sashes closed. Homes built before 1978 can have lead paint on sashes and sills, so we don't scrape, sand or force paint. If we see flaking paint at a window we wipe around it, stop there and tell you.

What counts as a pane?

One sheet of glass. A one-over-one double-hung window has two panes, a six-over-six has twelve, a picture window has one. If you can't tell, text a photo and we will count them for you.

Count your panes, or send a photo

We text back a written price by the pane. Sending a photo books nothing.
